Door Lock Replacement and Installation

Door lock installation is about alignment before anything else. The bore has to be square to the door edge, the latch has to land centred in the strike, and the strike has to be mortised into sound timber — a deadbolt that needs the door pulled or lifted to throw is a lock that will fail early and be left unlocked in the meantime.

We install single and double-cylinder deadbolts, handle sets, lever sets, mortise locks, commercial-grade cylinders, and smart locks, boring new doors where there’s no existing preparation and adapting the fit where there is.

Rekeying changes which key operates a lock without replacing the hardware. Where your existing locks are in good condition, it’s the faster and more economical route to controlling who has access — and multiple locks can be keyed alike so one key opens every exterior door.

Change the Locks on a House

Moving in is the moment to change the locks on a house — you have no way of knowing how many keys are in circulation from previous owners, tenants, contractors, or agents. It’s a short visit, and it can usually be done by rekeying the existing cylinders rather than replacing every lock.

Most break-ins don’t defeat the lock — they split the jamb beside it. A standard strike plate held with short screws pulls out of the trim on the first hard kick, taking the lock with it.

Reinforced strike plates fixed with long screws that reach the stud behind the jamb transfer that force into the framing instead of the trim. Combined with a longer deadbolt throw and a jamb reinforcement plate, it’s the cheapest meaningful security upgrade available on any exterior door. Front Door Lock Replacement

The front door takes the most use and the most attention from anyone testing a house. We replace worn front door locks with correctly graded hardware, fit reinforced strikes, and check that the door and frame themselves are sound enough to carry the new lock.

1. Call and tell us the situation. New move-in, a failing lock, or damage after a break-in each need different parts.
2. Assess the door and hardware. Bore size, backset, door thickness, jamb condition, and existing strike.
3. Install, replace, or rekey. Almost always completed on the first visit.
4. Key and test. Every key tested in every lock, latch alignment checked, and keys handed over.
