Door Frame, Jamb And Threshold Replacement & Repair
A perfect door in a failed frame is still a failed door. When the jamb is split, the threshold has lifted, or the frame has rotted at the base, no amount of adjusting the door itself will fix the draught, the sticking, or the security problem. A1 Doors Services repairs and replaces door frames, jambs, thresholds, and weatherstripping — same-day, by licensed technicians.

Door Frame Repair & Door Jamb Repair
Door jamb repair covers two very different situations: sudden damage and slow decay. A kicked-in door splits the jamb at the strike, usually along the grain, and leaves the door hanging on a frame that will no longer hold a lock. Water damage works more quietly, softening the bottom of the leg over years until the whole frame moves when the door closes.
We repair split jambs with structural splices and reinforcement rather than filler, cut out and scarf in rotted sections, refit strike plates into sound timber, and re-shim frames that have moved out of square. Where a repair won’t hold a lock securely, we’ll say so and quote replacement instead.

Door Threshold Replacement & Weatherstripping
The threshold is the hardest-working part of any exterior door — it takes foot traffic, rain, and every temperature swing of the year. When it fails you feel it immediately as a draught along the floor and see it as daylight under the closed door.
We replace aluminium, wood, and composite thresholds, fit adjustable models where the door has dropped, and renew the sweep and perimeter seal at the same time so the whole opening seals as one system.
Exterior Door Threshold Replacement
An exterior door threshold has to shed water outward and seal upward at once. We remove the old unit, check the subfloor and framing underneath for the rot that’s usually hiding there, and set the new threshold bedded in sealant with the correct slope.
Door Threshold Seals & Sweeps
Often the threshold itself is fine and only the seal has hardened and shrunk. Replacing the door sweep and threshold insert is a short visit and immediately closes the gap at the bottom of the door.
Door Frame Replacement & Jamb Replacement
When rot, impact, or long-term movement has gone too far, door frame replacement is the fix that lasts. It’s also the opportunity to correct whatever caused the failure — no sill pan, no flashing, a header that was never square.
We supply and fit pre-hung frames and site-built jambs in timber, engineered, and steel, set with shims and levelled on every leg, then insulated, sealed, and trimmed. The door is re-hung with an even reveal all round and a lock that engages without being lifted or shoved.
Door Jamb Replacement
Where only one leg has failed — typically the hinge side after rot, or the strike side after a break-in — we can replace that jamb alone and keep the rest of the frame and casing intact. It’s a faster, cleaner job than a full frame swap and holds just as well when the remaining frame is sound.

Signs Your Door Frame Needs Repair or Replacement
- The door sticks, drags, or the reveal is uneven top to bottom
- The lock no longer lines up with the strike plate
- Soft, spongy, or discoloured timber at the base of a jamb leg
- Visible splits or cracks around the strike after a forced entry
- Daylight or a draught along the bottom or side of a closed door
- The threshold lifts, flexes, or has visibly separated from the floor

How We Work
- Call and describe the damage. Break-in damage and rot need different parts and different amounts of time.
- Inspect the whole opening. Frame, jamb legs, threshold, subfloor, and the door’s fit within it.
- Repair or replace. Splices, jamb legs, and thresholds are typically same-visit work; full frames are scheduled.
- Level, seal, and test. Even reveal, clean latch engagement, and a sealed perimeter before we finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a split door jamb be repaired, or does the frame need replacing?
If the split is contained and the surrounding timber is sound, a structural splice with reinforcement restores full strength and is the faster fix. Where the jamb has shattered across the strike or the timber is rotted, replacement is the only secure option.
Will a new threshold stop the draught under my door?
Usually, yes — provided the door itself hasn’t dropped. We fit the threshold and the sweep together and adjust the door height where needed, so the seal closes across the whole width.
Do you repair frames after a break-in?
Yes, and we treat it as an emergency. We can secure the opening the same day and return for the permanent frame repair, including reinforced strike plates and long screws into the stud.
How long does a door frame replacement take?
A standard interior frame is a few hours. An exterior frame including threshold, flashing, and sealing typically takes most of a day, longer if there’s rot in the framing behind it.
